Alistair Chisholm is a professional Blue Badge Guide.
A small but intrepid party of West Staffordites set out for their Ghost Walk special with the Alistair Chisholm on 11/7. It was a balmy evening with a “barmy” guide (pun intended to give some flavour of our Town Crier’s style when he is working to his own script).
But no criticism is intended; on the contrary, most of his jokes were considerably better than the above and we enjoyed a remarkable tour de force as we moved from one stand to another to hear of Dorchester’s spooky past.
As in Dan Snow’s recent TV series, “Filthy Cities”, we learned much of the squalid lives and deaths! of former residents of our county town. Apart from the many laughs, there was much to interest the serious-minded, including several Hardy poems, beautifully recited in our guide’s inimitable tones. We dispersed after a delightful evening’s entertainment as Alistair, in full Dracula garb, melted into the shadows from whence he’d materialised an hour and a half earlier.
Take your friends and guests this summer; you won’t be disappointed!”
